Carolina Collegiate High School aims to provide a joyful, safe, and inclusive high school experience, preparing students for a successful post-graduation life. One of the intentional programs we build into life at CCHS is our house and advisory system. Through smaller advisories and larger student houses, we create multiple layers of belonging.
Advisories
Goal: To deepen students’ sense of self through a robust, four-year social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum.
Schedule: Advisory groups meet Monday through Thursday. This includes a brief morning check-in (“warm-up” activities) and a longer session later in the day.
Curriculum Focus: Students engage in lessons from our SEL curriculum, with one in every four lessons focusing on goal setting and future planning.
Advisor Role: Each student is assigned an Advisor upon starting CCHS, ideally keeping the same one for at least a two-year period.
- The Advisor helps students build foundational relationships, works with them on achieving goals, and supports college access planning.
- The Advisor tracks academic performance, helps address struggles, and facilitates communication with other staff.
Houses
Belonging: The House System provides an intermediate layer of belonging for students, linking the school, their grade level, and their advisory. The house system is comprised of six multi-grade-level houses, with each house encompassing multiple advisories.
Healthy Competition and Growth: Houses meet once per week, compete for points, and attend weekly Lead Lectures from school leadership focusing on community and well-being.
Student Leadership: House leadership forms the school’s student government, guided by the house chairs (supervising teachers).
